Improved production and resource planning capabilities Higher agility and reduced time to market Lowered maintenance costs and prevented downtime The Client Established in 1932 in Bulgaria to meet local demand for high-quality plant protection solutions, today Agria is the largest agrochemical producer on the Balkan peninsula. The company has two main production and packaging facilities and exports their internationally certified products to over 70 countries in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and the Middle East. Agria’s multi-faceted business development approach includes continuous modernization, regular portfolio expansion and an ongoing commitment to environmental protection. The Solution As part of their global plan for digitalization and process optimization, Agria needed a technology partner who would help craft the company’s digital roadmap for years ahead. The first step involved migrating their heavily customized SAP ECC 6.0 solution to SAP S/4HANA to allow seamless management convergence of all company subsidiaries in Bulgaria, Russia, Ecuador and Indonesia. The main objectives of the project were standardizing processes across Agria’s global business entities, increasing visibility over KPIs as well as the entire business and reducing overhead. Agria executed an extensive RFP procedure to find the best vendor for their digitalization journey and Scalefocus was among the shortlisted companies. They tasked us with executing their ERP migration strategy due to our extensive experience in delivering complex enterprise projects for business transformation and solid track-record of successful SAP S/4HANA implementations within the manufacturing industry. We guided Agria in unpicking the SAP ECC 6.0 customization that was not driving satisfactory results and provided the complete picture of the value they would get moving forward with SAP S/4HANA. In this way we were going to fulfill step one of the global plan to move all of Agria’s subsidiaries to SAP and resolve the long-standing issue of production and resource planning optimization. SAP S/4HANA is a future-ready enterprise resource planning (ERP) system with built-in intelligent technologies, including AI, machine learning and advanced analytics. It transforms business processes with smart automation and runs on SAP HANA—a market-leading in-memory database that offers real-time processing speed and a dramatically simplified data model. After careful evaluation with the active participation of Scalefocus’ consultants, Agria decided to go with S/4HANA Single Tennant Edition, which provides next generation ERP capabilities packaged as Platform as a Service (PaaS) for maximum flexibility and scalability. The decision allowed the company to take advantage of all benefits this comprehensive cloud-focused approach offers, specifically a flexible licensing model and compliance with regulations in the countries of all subsidiaries. Having carried out the first Greenfield SAP S/4HANA migration in Bulgaria the year before, Scalefocus had the confidence and full expertise to rise to the occasion and turn Agria into a trailblazer on yet another front. The modules in the implementation scope were Sales and Distribution (SD), Materials Management (MM), Production Planning (PP), Finance (FI), Controlling (CO), Plant Maintenance (PM) and Quality Management (QM) and we configured them in a single integrated system. The Scalefocus SAP team utilized PP/DS (Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling) with characteristic dependent planning, which we had to modify in a way that would enable extremely precise resource planning and configuration. It was a necessary step to ensure compliance with varying sets of international regulations and quality standards. We conducted walkthrough tests, key user trainings and provided dedicated hyper care to secure seamless integration. Results Agria’s SAP S/4HANA migration strategy involved complex decision making on the Scalefocus SAP team’s part due to the global scale of the project and the sophisticated nature of production processes. Alignment with the company’s subsidiaries required a flexible system that combines innovation, scalability and full transparency on all levels with UI that would facilitate and accelerate user adoption. Every digital transformation runs into challenges, but with the right roadmap they can be minimized and solved quickly. Going forward with a cloud-first approach enabled Agria to have a higher degree of agility, reduced the time to market and in the end ensured the project’s success. World-class security with military-grade encryption Scalable AWS solution to handle growth Native iOS application built from scratch The Client To be a true disruptor, Spiral Bank, a US FinTech startup, decided to solve the product-market fit challenge in a way that not only meets their target users’ needs but goes a step further by making a change in society. Their core belief is that the future belongs to socially conscious brands that care about giving back as they do about generating profits. The founding goal behind the FinTech is to provide the first digital solution that seamlessly combines personal banking and charitable giving by linking givers with charity and non-profit organizations. Users can support different causes with one-time or recurring donations of as little as $5 while earning rewards and monthly cash bonuses on their deposits. The Solution On their journey to pioneering ethical banking, Spiral Bank needed a technology partner with deep FinTech expertise who would develop their iOS application - a new ecosystem solution for connecting givers and 1.5 million non-profit businesses. The startup partnered with Scalefocus and tasked us with developing their business idea, leading it from inception to market while navigating them in choosing the best technology stack. The final result had to be a scalable solution to handle growth and make them a frontrunner in the world of mobile banking. Based on information from Spiral Bank’s team about the target user, we knew that our primary persona was a tech-savvy young adult with an iPhone and an income that allows them to set aside a certain amount for charity. This meant they were after a simple yet catchy design that was not overly playful in look and feel, or too basic in functionality. We based our approach on the premise that most people would like to contribute to a cause, but don't get opportunities to do it easily, hence the need for one-click actions and architecture that would support them. Our team built a Proof of Concept (PoC) detailing the need for the development of a native mobile application as opposed to a hybrid one to best answer the business needs. Design with a hybrid UI would ultimately mean non-essential elements, misplaced features and a less-than-intuitive UX overall. Our experts concluded it was imperative that the app was native to ensure consistency with the client’s idea for interactive elements and effortless navigation. We executed each step -architecture design, user testing, launch and post-launch, against specific deadlines and followed detailed requirements coming from the Spiral Banks’s internal UX specialists. We took into consideration Human Interface Guidelines (HIG) - Apple’s design guidelines for consumer products - and made sure every design decision coming from the company’s in-house team was in alignment with all recommendations. Scalefocus involvement in the project was focused on: Backend architecture and design, DevOps and process optimization Digital and physical card options via third party integration Automatic daily top-up option to refill the cards to a set level Digital checking and savings accounts via third party integration Meticulous transaction history and expense tracker option User-friendly homepage with an infinite scroll and newsfeed-like look Instant outgoing and incoming money transfer notifications Follow and share options of charity organizations and NGOs’ content Robust API security based on intelligent backend algorithms Results Since the Covid-19 crisis practically eliminated in-person events and fundraisers, the client’s banking app had to make donating easier and safer in the context of the pandemic and beyond. The Scalefocus team developed an application combining financial services with opportunities to support social and environmental causes by tapping into users’ philanthropic side. The native iOS banking app matches users’ donations made for organizations dealing with climate restoration, cancer research, human rights, poverty relief, accessible education, gun control, cultural heritage and many different causes. There are no fees for active accounts, no minimum balance required and no hidden fees. Donations are done through a reward system characterized by full transparency: charities provide users with images and video recordings of what their funds have been used for. The Solution In order to modernize and harmonize our client’s modelling setup, we took a two-pronged approach. First, we consulted and advised their internal teams on best practices for software development and governance. As a second step, we designed and implemented a modelling platform, which would be used across different departments, serving various use cases, each with its own technical and functional requirements. I. Process consultancy We began by performing a detailed analysis of our client’s needs and workflows when developing, orchestrating and collaborating on different models. We proceeded to create a comprehensive gap analysis, which outlined our findings and suggested improvements. We implemented several CI/CD pipelines following industry standards and best practices, which allowed the in-house engineers to collaborate in model creation and efficiently utilize the Modelling Platform’s capabilities. As a result we: Harmonized the technological stack and tools used by teams across departments; Implemented a proper Gitflow for version control; Set up centralized Azure DevOps pipelines for building, testing and dockerizing models; Set up a central Container Registry for image distribution. II. Modelling platform To enhance the cross-team collaboration, we implemented a central modelling platform to be used as an orchestration, execution, and monitoring tool, tailored to satisfy all current use cases. The platform is based on Azure technologies and allows for the deployment, orchestration, monitoring, and debugging of various models with different technical and functional requirements. It is designed with extensibility in mind, so it can be easily adapted whenever new requirements and use cases surface in the future. Results As a result, our client’s internal collaboration was significantly improved, inter-department projects were vastly facilitated and overall model quality was enhanced. The company offers a unique product portfolio that includes quote-to-cash and contract management solutions. More precisely, these are Configure-Price-Quote (CPQ), Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM), Document Generation, and Process Automation. These distinctive features add up to create a complete package that could transform any business and propel them into digitalization. Our client’s aim is to maintain and further develop its competitive edge in order to constantly achieve commercial excellence. The Solution Our client’s main challenge was to find ways to navigate through delivery roadblocks and to have reliable and scalable software solutions in order to meet the rising demand in Europe. For that reason, they needed to find a trusted nearshore partner who could readily take up the project and hit the ground running, offering prepared and skillful teams. After a brief training, we built out a Remote Delivery Center to service a variety of software development projects. We scaled their operations with four teams, each with specific technical know-how and expertise. More precisely, these teams were: developers, configuration engineers, solution architects, and a QA department. Having a strong presence and being actively involved across departments allowed us to track and control the whole software project cycle from start to finish. Our responsibilities included software implementation in which software engineers set up out-of-the-box functionalities. Developers worked over customizations. In order to successfully handle our client’s operations, our team was involved in the development of functionalities for the specific products: Configure-Price-Quote (CPQ) and Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM). CPQ is an automated sales tool that allows a business to handle and manage offers sent to clients. CPQ applications often work together with CLM applications. Seen as the next step of the cycle, CLM automates contract processes and streamlines them to a specific client, product, region etc. Working on a project in which the client entrusted us their software allowed us to expand our scope and take care of every detail along the development life cycle. More specifically, we were able to use a number of technologies like CPQ & CLM configuration, Apex customizations, Salesforce Lightning & Aura frameworks, Visualforce pages, Data integrations, Salesforce declarative development, Salesforce Administration, and more. A great amount of attention was given to the development of the CPQ product. Our team worked on the creation of Pricing Engine software that provides fast and accurate pricing to make sure margins and profits are optimized. The solution architect’s department was focused on the application architecture, and our QA experts performed complex tests to make sure there would be no issues throughout the process. In addition, our team devoted time and effort to enhance X-Author – an award-winning connector between Microsoft Excel and our client’s CLM or CPQ applications. That way, data could be automatically transferred from one software to another in a hassle-free and convenient manner. Thousands of records could be moved at any time, alleviating the workload from administrators, and also making the end user’s journey easier. In addition to this project, our team was also involved in software development, solution and technical architecture, configuration, and QA for a large Dutch manufacturer of technical equipment. For this second project, Bulgaria acted as one of the main delivery centers. We provided solutions for quoting, product configuration, pricing, ordering, and integrations. Additionally, among other developments, we improved the product record and the catalogue structure. Our team successfully handled the migration of one CRM, in this case Microsoft Dynamics, to another, Salesforce. Scalefocus was the preferred vendor for this migration based on our previous expertise and proved track record in delivering exceptionally smooth processes. Another important project for which our remote delivery center offered software solutions was for a leading Dutch online travel agency. Our Apttus/Conga certified team successfully implemented a Conga CLM solution, enhancing the platform's capabilities when handling user tasks.
