The company serves millions of members across 50 US states. Their strength lies in providing evidence-based patient care management for chronic diseases, such as cancer and musculoskeletal disorders, as well as cost-effective genetic testing at advanced, high-priced laboratories. Their multifaceted service offering includes member engagement, peer-to-peer consultation, program performance and practice trends reporting. The Solution In the post-pandemic world, more than ever before, medical solutions companies are evolving at a fast rate and are relying on advanced technologies, smart analytics and high productivity to stand out on the market. Our client excelled at providing high-quality healthcare management solutions, but they needed to modernize their main platform to allow for faster feature release rates via smart automation. The company management identified a recurring issue: repetitive and slow manual verification of UI functionalities. They also felt the need to provide a higher level of protection for the organization and increase their business risk coverage. To that end, the client needed a trusted HealthTech partner who would be able to rearchitect their platform to allow for the automation of business-critical tasks. This process included several sub-projects, such as Automated Quality Assurance, Refactoring, Big Data and Analytics. Our expertise in the HealthTech domain and our track record of providing quality software engineering at speed were the reasons why Scalefocus was tasked with this complex project. Scalefocus succeeded in filling the automated tests gap, streamlined processes and contributed for the saving of resources. Our main efforts went towards creating a solid automation framework designed for easy and fast test creation. We built a total of over 6500 functional tests for all network domains, following a unified structure and taking into account best practices. Part of the functional tests were made to perform as smoke tests that could be used to quickly verify the main business logic. Our team updated old tests and implemented new ones. We extended verifications to ensure that the products meet all the official specifications and requirements. Results By implementing in-sprint automation for the backend services, the Scalefocus engineers ensured that all tests are constantly running smoothly alongside development and are in a continuous integration environment. In addition to improving debug configuration to easily identify any errors in the client’s software platform, clear test log reports were put in place. After introducing parallel execution, the time for carrying out tests was significantly reduced. In addition, the common functionality of the platform was moved to a shared testing library. This allowed for the main business flow to be easily reused among team members and departments, encouraging greater collaboration. The code for setup, execution and logging of the tests was written once and any required changes made would simply be an updated version of the library, saving both time and costs. Energy & Utilities Revamped Reporting and Analytics via Event-Based Platform Home / Case Studies Anchor 1 Success Story One of the largest energy companies in Europe, needed a solution to enhance their reporting operations, enable real-time analysis and minimize dependencies across systems. Scalefocus implemented an event-based streaming platform, which was the company’s first step towards a real-time PnL. The company’s trading business includes mid-to-large scale asset-based portfolio management and encompasses complex origination business. It primarily trades commodities such as electricity, emissions certificates, natural gas, renewables, and a vast range of financial derivatives. Additionally, the company owns and manages a gas infrastructure business. The Solution After an initial analysis phase, carried out jointly with client stakeholders and architects, we concluded that streaming technologies were a great fit. Our team proceeded to design a platform for event-based data processing. As part of the initial feasibility study, we implemented a PoC, which was later extended to a fully-fledged solution. A significant accomplishment during this project was leveraging the event-based streaming technologies to enable close to real-time data processing and reporting. Furthermore, our dedicated streaming platform allowed for the execution of calculations and data manipulations outside of the ETRMs, which mitigated dependencies with the existing ETRM landscape. On top of that, by storing intermediate data, our solution effectively rendered disparate data silos obsolete and unified them in a single source of truth. We employed a modern approach for data integration and management, focused on several key points: Rapid data availability to enable close to real-time reporting; Minimized dependencies between price dependent/independent results – this opens the opportunity of redesigning reporting processes and reducing complexities in the future; Improved integration monitoring, reporting parallelization and troubleshooting; High availability, so that business-critical processes can run without downtime. Results Our platform began as a PoC and was subsequently tested in real-world scenarios and implemented in a production environment afterwards. The solution is already rolled out to several critical data streams, such as Positions, Nominals, Risk, and Compliance Reporting. According to our client’s testimony, such a transformation allowed for the exploration and implementation of previously unfeasible use cases, due to heavy coupling between trading applications and batch-based data processing. The close to real-time data availability we made possible has become a key element in their reporting operations. It has accelerated decision-making and enabled actions based on analysis of series of events that have just happened. The company worked with various market associations in developing a POC for a bullion software solution using Digital Ledger Technology (DLT) that would be fully standardized on a global scale. aXedras also collaborated with national and international authorities to shape the legal international framework for DLT. After the successful development of their prototype, they needed an innovation-driven technology partner that would help them bring their idea from concept to market. Our proven track record with FinTech projects was what motivated aXedras to join forces with Scalefocus on this exciting journey to digitalize an entire industry. The Solution As 2020 turned to be a record-setting year for gold, the international trading and investment community was reminded once again that the precious metal market, despite its centuries-old traditions, still has a long way to go in terms of streamlining its operations. It has so far failed to utilize instruments to safeguard the authenticity of assets and to provide the much-needed transactional transparency for stakeholders. As gold’s relevance skyrocketed with the progression of the Covid-19 crisis, it became blatantly obvious there were no such tools in place. The industry had a gaping need for working mechanisms to help document the provenance of products and to provide a track record of their lifecycles. The technology collaboration between Scalefocus and aXedras began with the clear idea that we were not going to disrupt the precious metal industry, which has solid traditions and operates within a defined framework. Rather, the idea was to help each player comply with the rules and regulations of the very market they operate in through a blockchain-based infrastructure. It allows for a private permissible network where members can transfer data to their business partners securely. Through the decentralization DLT provides, participants can be sure information has not been adjusted or manipulated and maintain full confidentiality while having the necessary transactional transparency. The way the verification platform works is once an asset, such as a gold bar, is refined, it gets a digital twin carrying all of the information about it: where the asset is coming from, details about the manufacturing process, how and when it was moved as well as who took part in the various lifecycle stages. The platform members as such have access to the provenance and quality data whenever and wherever—it’s digitally available—and can take advantage of the asset’s full traceability. This connects the different players and simplifies daily operations, such as transport, compliance and trade. Due to the complexity of the project, as well as the Covid-19 crisis, our team adjusted the development approach in alignment with the dynamic changes 2020 brought. We worked with different teams across Europe and put the solution through multiple iterations to make sure all objectives were met and stakeholders could get the most out of the platform with just a few clicks. We paid special attention to making the solution easy to integrate with various databases and ERP systems stakeholders use, including in terms of hosting and cloud infrastructure.
